Come and Eat: JustGospel Men's Evening
JustGospel is hosting a Men's Evening on at 86 Helena van Zyl Street in Houtkop, near Vereeniging, Gauteng. The night is built around a bonfire, a potjiekos and bread supper, live worship and speakers. Tickets are R100 and are sold at the JustGospel office at Delta Community Church in Duncanville, or by phoning Elsabe on 066 100 7418.
What is the JustGospel Men's Evening?
It's an outdoor evening for men around a fire, with real food and honest conversation. The theme is "Come and Eat", with the line "Keep the Fire Burning" underneath. We've kept it deliberately free of church-building formality. You don't need a suit, a Bible verse memorised or any idea what to say. You need to be hungry.
Why "Come and Eat"?
After the resurrection, in John 21, Jesus lights a fire of coals on the shore, cooks fish, and calls his friends in to eat. These are the same men who ran when he was arrested, and Peter had denied him three times. He doesn't open with a lecture. He feeds them first, and only then does he talk to Peter. We think that order matters, and it's the one we want to copy: food and a fire first, and the rest of the conversation after.
"Keep the Fire Burning" comes from Leviticus 6:13, where the fire on the altar is never allowed to go out. Most men we know have let theirs burn low somewhere along the way, through work, tiredness, or just carrying everything alone. The evening is meant to put a bit of fuel back on it.
What will happen on the night?
There's a big bonfire, and potjiekos cooked in cast-iron pots on the coals, with bread baked fresh on the fire. There will be live worship and a few speakers, kept short. The rest is food, fire and talking to the man next to you, which for plenty of men is the part they actually need.
When and where is it?
Friday, 30 October 2026, from 6pm to 9pm, at 86 Helena van Zyl Street, Houtkop.
How much are tickets and where do I get them?
Tickets cost R100 each and include the potjiekos and bread. Buy them from the JustGospel office at Delta Community Church, Edelweiss Street, Duncanville, or phone Elsabe on 066 100 7418. Every ticket is numbered, so keep yours and bring it on the night.
Who is it for?
Every man. We especially want the men who wouldn't normally come to something like this. Bring your brother, your neighbour, or the colleague who says he isn't the church type. If he'll come for the potjie, that's a good enough reason.
